What Interests Me about Christian Contemporary Fiction
Since I turned fifty-one this year, I enjoy that it focuses on happenings within my lifetime since the genre encompasses the last fifty years. For me, I can relate better to characters within a contemporary setting. Working within time periods of my life also contributes to my understanding of character responses to trials and difficulty.
Next, I can use my knowledge gained during my travels to better paint my settings in detail. As a young person, I traveled throughout the country on ministry teams and even went out of the US a few times on mission trips. I’ve visited towns and cities of various sizes and so will better provide visual detail to my books’ locations.
Finally, I’m also interested in Christian Contemporary Fiction because I can focus on the spiritual lives of the characters. I can write about themes such as forgiveness and hope that impact all of us believers. Characters in my stories can discuss their relationship to the Lord and grapple with their sins, ultimately fixing their eyes on Jesus. It also gives me a chance to draw from my own experiences and share what God has taught me. Without being preachy, I can allow for a little more character-driven stories.
I’m interested to see how God reaches you readers through my stories and hopefully He will mend a wound or two as well.
