Book Review: The Mountain Between Us by Charles Martin

Looking up ebooks on Libby, my local library app has been quite wonderful. I’ve devoured many writing craft books as well as reading within my genre and outside it as well. I came up across this book recently and consumed it in a couple days.

Considering my short reading time, it was quite the page-turner for me. Charles Martin knows how to keep the tension pulling you into reading the next page and the next one and so on. I tended to skip very few places as well. I was very interested to find out how the two would survive the plane crash in the Utah wilderness. I thought the use of the camcorder was a very interesting device and gave an in-depth look into the man’s relationship with his wife. The relationship they share was very sweet and highlighted the depth of their love. I thought Martin’s character development was spot-on. The man and woman would be engaging people if you ever met them in real life.

Martin painted his scenes with the right amount of description, so my eyes didn’t glaze over as I read them which happens sometimes in other books. I just want to get to the action and know the important event that drive the story along. Martin performed very well in this area.

The twist brought out near the end blindsided me and of course, I won’t reveal it here, but I encourage you to read the book. Just when you think you know something, Martin changed it up on me. Kudos to him. Pick up this book, you’ll be certainly glad you did it.
