Distractions from and obstacles to our spiritual race present themselves around us. The enemy seeks to stop us or weigh us down with entanglements. The solution? Fixing our eyes on Jesus Christ.

Consider a runner in a race. Where does she focus? On her aches and pains? No, this would weigh her down. On her failure in previous races? No, this would be discouraging. Instead, she must center her eyes forward to the goal while remembering her training.

Dear Christians, what are we focusing on in our race? Has it discouraged or left us feeling weary? Then it’s not Jesus. Thought of our Savior refreshes and provides us solace as we race onward.

Remember he endured his suffering with the joy of us being united in heaven. Can we not receive the same joy and focus as well? Fixing our eyes on Jesus helps us go the distance.

O Jesus, give us wholly and only you in our sight as we run joyfully unto our homegoing.
