If a runner becomes distracted during his race, what can happen? He may slow down or even fall, hampering his chances at finishing the race. If I
consider writing such a race, distraction will delay or end the race of finishing my book. As it happens, I have been distracted from time to time and so have
made slow progress. Discipline really is key to a healthy writing life.
Hebrews 11 highlights those in the Bible who ran a life of faith in God and chapter 12 begins by noting they are our “great cloud of witnesses” during our
running the race of faith. Applying this to writing as a Christian means i must throw off everything that hinders completing it. Authors such as
John Bunyan, George Macdonald, and C S Lewis witness with their lives that it can be done. Publication may not be awaiting me at the finish line, but I will
have been obedient to God’s leading when i cast off distraction and continue writing. May God continue to strengthen and uphold me in my own running the
race to the end. May He also do the same for you.
