Since Father’s Day is coming up, I decided to put my new poem on the website for anyone to read. Having spent quite the time editing it, I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
A Moment of Memory by Jeremy D Vance Copyright June 7, 2023 10:11 am CST
We trolled the waters still of Nancy Lake
In hopes to snag a northern, Dad and I.
My line became a wire, refused to shake
So I assumed a log was caught, no lie.
The tree on bottom sat, my pole was bent
Until the weight was loosed and in distress,
The log became a fearsome lunker, sent
to test, unleashing fierceness in its rage.
Untamed, unyielding, it desired life.
With twists and turns, the fish defied my youth,
My strength was fading, the pike was striving.
By flips and spins, it, past the net, did scoot.
Again the net pursued, the monster dodged.
Shaking wildly and breaking loose, the fish
did swiftly hide beneath the weeds to lodge,
for future bites, the wiser one would wish.
The past rewinding, we relive the tale:
An awesome, foiled catch of larger size.
The jokes do fly since humor doesn’t
fail to show the love between my dad and I.
