Sonnets? Yes, please! Writing these forms of poetry has been a pleasant distraction
from my fiction writing. Words just keep coming until I’m stuck on picking the right rhyme
and then I love the problem solving that follows. For it’s more than picking a word that rhymes,
but also conveying the feeling or picture you’re portraying. For a vocabulary enthusiast like me,
it is rather enjoyable.
So far, I’ve written two more sonnets, but still nothing to post yet. I’ve departed from the
ten syllables a line rule to do eight instead. I’m still figuring out the “volta” or change in thought
written in the eighth line of a fourteen line sonnet. I believe I misjudged poetry in junior high.
It has been quite a pleasant distraction. Maybe it will be for you too!
