Time for a book writing update!
I’m still writing A Father’s Shadow and I’m on the tenth chapter. Having looked over it, I realized I need to move some of it into chapter eleven. To recap a bit of the story, I’m writing about a pastor named Rudy Landau. He serves a church of 200 people and loses his father early on. While wrestling with the man’s impact on his life, Rudy meets a granddaughter of a couple elderly parishioners. Millie is very involved in New Age beliefs and practices and in chapter ten/eleven discusses some of them with Rudy while family looks on. Can some semblance of a friendship be built when religious beliefs clash? Stay tuned to find out!
To clarify, this possible friendship isn’t the main thrust of the story but will figure within Rudy’s character arc. Writing this story has been enjoyable so far and I’m interested to see what develops. I’ve made some character sketches and worked through Rudy’s character arc, but most of the creation is what’s called discovery writing. This can also be referred to as “pantsing” or writing by the seat of your pants. Maybe discovery writing is more appropriate. The stories twists and turns come to me as I write and while I have an idea of the direction I want to go, the story basically weaves itself as I continue.
I hope these tidbits might satisfy your curiosity. Keep checking here to find another book writing update. See you soon.
